One of the more popular things to do is to go fishing. The Metedeconk River runs through the township and is a great place to catch river otters, waterfowl, and more.

The Sister Mary Grace Burns Arboretum is also a must-see for visitors to the park. This historic botanical garden features four different gardens with their own unique style, including Japanese, French parterre, and sunken gardens.

The soaring cliffs and sandy beaches at the Double Trouble State Park are another must-see attraction. Open play fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, and volleyball courts appeal to children and adults alike. A large, pristine lake beckons swimmers on warm summer days. Originally part of the estate of financier John D. Rockefeller, the park is filled with white pines and hemlock trees imported by the famed billionaire.

Championship-quality golf courses, such as Eagle Ridge, Four Seasons, and Hominy Hill entice players to enjoy the area’s pristine fairways and greens. The single A minor league baseball franchise, the Lakewood BlueClaws, calls FirstEnergy Park home from April through September. Whether you’re taking in the views from atop a tall tree or hanging out with your pup in one of the off-leash dog areas, Ocean County Park offers something for everyone. And because it’s so close to other nearby parks, you can take a day or weekend to really get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The 565-acre park was originally part of financier John D. Rockefeller’s vacation estate and is filled with white pine, hemlock, and unique specimen trees. Tennis courts, open play fields, and a beautiful beach attract active adults and kids alike, while the large, clean lake fosters a calm mood perfect for swimming.

Parking is free for all casual users of the park, but please note that some streets within the park are designated as one-way streets and no person shall park a vehicle on these roads at any time. Refer to the following map for more details.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities, this park offers miles of hiking trails for both casual and experienced hikers. White pine, hemlock, and other unique specimen trees are found throughout this 565-acre park which was once part of Financier John D. Rockefeller’s estate. Tennis courts, open playing fields, a playground for children, and a pristine lake to swim in during hot summer days appeal to active adults. The park also boasts a challenging trail system which is often used by area bikers and cross country skiers.

The Jakes Branch County Park is the perfect balance of active and passive recreation. The nature center and its breathtaking views of the seemingly endless Pine Barrens are complemented by soccer, softball, baseball, and tennis courts as well as miles of walking trails.
