Monmouth Park Racetrack was founded in 1870 and is one of the most prominent horseracing venues in New Jersey. It hosts some of the biggest horse racing events in the US.

What to Expect

The facility opened on July 30, 1870, and was created in an attempt to increase summer trade for beach communities. Initially, the track earned distinction as the Newmarket of America due to its high caliber of racing. However, three years later financial problems forced the track to close.
Remnants of the original Monmouth Park can still be seen around the track today. The facility is home to the internationally known Haskell Invitational and offers simulcast wagering on races from across the country. Parking
The venue offers several parking options for your convenience. Those looking to drive can park in the Grandstand or Clubhouse lots, while those traveling with a group of 25 or more can reserve spaces on the backstretch.
The main track is a one-mile oval with four inches of cushion composed of sand and topsoil, which is home to the chutes used in six furlongs and one-and-a-quarter-mile races. A special train called the Pony Express once ran between Hoboken Terminal and the racetrack during the racing season, which provided a great opportunity for railfans to scout out equipment.

Food
Monmouth Park has a variety of food options available to visitors. These include a luxury restaurant named Blu Grotto Sea Cave, a beer garden, and more. There is also the William Hill Sports Bar, which serves drinks and food for seated patrons.
This is a great place to go for the Jersey Shore Food Truck Festival and watch horse races. There are a lot of seating areas and lots of food trucks to choose from including seafood, American, and Mexican.
Parking is limited on big event days, but if you live close to the track it is very easy to get there by bus. NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line stops at the track during live racing events. From there it’s a short walk to the track.
Drinks
Monmouth Park is more than just a horse racetrack. It is an all-out entertainment venue that has restaurants, a beer garden, and children’s horse riding.
Located by the mini golf course, Blu Grotto offers open gazebo seating and good Italian food while you watch racing. It also has simulcasting inside and a full bar.
Coolers are not allowed in the Grandstand Preferred Parking lot or on the apron near the track. You can bring them to the picnic area but can’t take them into the main Grandstand gates.
For something a little more high-end, check out Park Loft at Monmouth Park. This brand-new event space combines modern industrial and European design elements to create a truly unique experience for special occasions like weddings and corporate events.
Entertainment
The main thoroughbred racing track at Monmouth Park opens in early May and runs through Labor Day weekend. It features some of the most prestigious races in the country including the Haskell Invitational and Jersey Derby.
The track also hosts numerous food festivals, giveaways, and specialty days throughout the summer. One of these special events is Family Fun Day with free games and a T-shirt cannon.
The venue also offers a luxury restaurant and beer garden with views of the racetrack, and children can enjoy miniature golfing. In addition to this, there is a sports bar serving drinks to seated customers. NJ TRANSIT’s North Jersey Coast Line train stops at the track during race days.
